After seeing a doctor I'm being sent in for a mammography. What is "Mastalgia?" "Mast"= breast and "Algia"= Pain, so it means breast pain, that's all. It implies no particular cause. Ruptured cysts are a common reason for breast pain. Infections are another. This is called mastitis, with again "mast"=breast and "itis"=inflammation. These are often caused by germs from the infant's mouth entering cracks in the breast's skin during breastfeeding. Breast cancer rarely causes pain. |
