Vaginal Bleeding During Early Pregnancy

My friend told me she was spotting. She is currently in her 7th week of pregnancy. This past week, she has had both red blood and brown blood, every few days. Is this normal, and is it something she should see her physician about?

Even though it may not indicate a major problem, a pregnant woman with vaginal bleeding should notify her physician as soon as possible. If she experiences any pelvic pain as well, it would be prudent to be seen in the emergency room.

A significant percentage of women (about 25-33%) have some bleeding in the first trimester of pregnancy. Women with this symptom have a somewhat higher chance of loosing the pregnancy than those who don't. Still, the vast majority of these women go on to have healthy babies.
